This 15 year old Grand Prix showjumper developed a cough 3 years ago and despite the best veterinary and husbandry care it persisted, so he could no longer compete. He is an anxious horse to the extent that he’s always been too highly strung to ride out and could only be ridden in an enclosed space.
In this case study Kristina Koudelova practised 1N daily with him for 4 weeks. He made a remarkably quick recovery from the cough, and the anxiety significantly reduced to the point where he could be ridden out for the first time in his life. These results are perhaps not unexpected with Equine Breathing. However Kristina, who is highly qualified Equine Bodyworker and Osteopath was especially impressed with how much the 1N also benefited his movement patterns, abilities and posture “with amazing transformations”. She said;
“To sum it all up, something extraordinary happened every week during the one-month trial. I have learned so much from this wonderful horse. It was truly eye-opening. I witnessed a transformation from an anxious, tense, and coughing horse to a more confident, self-regulated, and relaxed horse that rarely coughs and uses his body more effectively.
To breathe is to live. This case study highlights that breathing is far more than a simple gas exchange. It has a profound impact on whole-body physiology, bodily functions, the nervous system, biomechanics, and posture. It brings to mind what Dr. Lewit, world authority on musculo-skeletal medicine said:
*If breathing is not normalised, no other movement pattern can be. Respiration is our primary and most important movement pattern… and also the most dysfunctional.*
I realise now that I hadn’t fully appreciated the depth of these words until I was introduced to Equine Breathing and saw with my own eyes the changes in the horses on so many levels.”
